The 31st annual Barristers' Open went off without a hitch under cool, cloudy skies on August 17 at Crosswinds Golf Course in Bowling Green, and Matt McGill was the player of the day.
Leading the 35 golfers competing for prizes in the scramble was the team headed by McGill, of English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley. They shot an 11-under 60. McGill was supported by George Gleitz, Park Priest (those three pictured) and Hampton Moore, who had to leave the party early.
Running second with a 62 were Spencer Elder, Gibby Grogan, David Wolfe and Phil Grogan. The group won a scorecard playoff over Aaron Smith, who organized the event, Cole Maier, Kyle Roby and Kevin Croslin.
Hoy Hodges and Elder won prizes for closest-to-the-pin on a pair of three-par holes, and Roby was awarded honors for having the longest drive on the uphill, par four tenth hole.
Chris Minix was the lucky recipient of a new driver in a raffle that followed play. Council Settlement Group sponsored the event for the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association and provided green fees, lunch and prizes.
