Downey Appointed Family Court Judge
Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed Dick Downey to succeed the late Margaret Huddleston as Division III Circuit Judge for the Family Court in Warren County. A public investiture will be held on March 31 at 11:30 in Downey's courtroom on the third floor of the Justice Center.
Beshear signed an Executive Order appointing Downey on March 14.
Downey's was one of three names submitted to Beshear by the Warren County Judicial Nominating Commission chaired by Chief Justice John Minton. Attorneys Mike Owsley and Frank Smith serve on the seven-person commission, which is also comprised of four lay persons.
David Lanphear and Rebecca Simpson were the other two names submitted to the governor.
Downey was officially sworn in by Chief Justice Minton on March 17.
Huddleston died on Jan. 3, and her term expires at the end of the year. Six people have filed to run for the position, and they are Lanphear, Simpson, Ralph Beck, Jennifer Brinkley, Becky Gibson and John McCracken. Gibson has since withdrawn from the race.
Downey did not file to run.
