Barristers' Open Won with 10 Under Effort
The 33rd Barristers' Open, won by a team headed by District Judge John Brown, made a good showing in its own right at Bowling Green Country Club on Sept. 25.
Brown, Greg Harvey, Ryan Reed and Nathan Vinson won the tourney, played in a scramble format, with a 10-under-par 62. Just behind them at nine under were a fivesome comprised of Kyle Robey, Jason Hays, U. S. District Judge Greg Stivers, Bob Young and retired Judge Dick Downey.
Twenty-seven golfers divided into six teams by tournament organizer Brent Stinnett teed off at 1:30 and finished just ahead of light rain at 5:30. Records haven't been kept, but it's estimated the tourney was held during morning hours for about the previous 15 years.
Lauren Marley hit the longest women's drive, and the longest drive award went to Stivers. Paul Lawless (below) nailed the longest putt of the day.
Crosswinds Golf Course, formerly Hartland, hosted the event, informally dubbed "The Fifth Major" by founder Bart Darrell, for more than the past decade. Bowling Green Country Club, with the cooperation of golf professional Jeff McGill, hosted for the first time.
Following golf, the Bar's monthly social gathering, open to all members, was held on the amenity-laden back patio of the BGCC.
